WHAT ARE YOU DOING THIS SUMMER?
Cannes Film festival May 16- 27

Every year there many different film festivals held around the globe. Among all of them, The Cannes film Festival is the oldest, well known, and most renowned. This prestigious event, commenced 64 years ago in 1964 has graced its way to having the best of the best compete against one another and has inspired a number of people to be a part of the film industry.
The Cannes Film Festival is held in the southern part of France in Cannes around or in the month of May. As another year approaches, actors, directors, producers, distributors, and many other people are preparing for or looking forward to another great festival.
                For the 2011 festival everybody was eagerly awaiting on the official selection or the films that will be competing with each other for the Palme D’ Or award which is equivalent to the Grammys but for film. Some of the films in competition were Death of a Samurai from Japan directed by Takashi Miike, Drive from USA directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, Le Havre from Finland, France and Germany directed by Aki Kaurismäki, Melancholia from Denmark directed by Lars von Trier, and Midnight in Paris from USA directed by Woody Allen.  The films were shown in the theatre Lumiere, the grandest and main theater at the festival.
                There are several other programs such as special screenings and presentations from film schools all over the globe. Judges for these events are renowned film personalities like director Michel Gondry and actress Julie Gayet. In other areas the will be not in competition films just to showcase for the sake of gaining appreciation and also critical acclamation.
                During the festival some activities will take place in honor of cultural diversities that are being put forward by the films, which originate from socio cultural milieu. The uniqueness of each culture is respected and appreciated. Contributions made by companies with their base outside France, will also be acknowledged. An example of the event can be located in the Directors’ Fortnight.
                This grand festival is a huge success every year and it does not make a difference whether you are fluent in French or not you will still receive the best from the festival. Festival de Cannes is a must see thrilling event for film lovers, so be a part of the upcoming festival in 2012 and to receive an experience of a lifetime.
